Google might put brakes on the Nexus 7 tablet from this year. The company is rumoured to be working on an 8-inch tablet as the successor to the successful Nexus 7 launched in 2013 and 2012.

Now according to a report in the Digitimes which refer to sources in Taiwan, Google will team with Asus for the new Nexus tablet that will sport an 8-inch display screen (instead of 7 inch).

The report based on sources related to supply chain makers says “Google has been developing an 8-inch tablet to avoid price competition in the 7-inch segment.” This tablet might come for a launch at the end of April with two million units for shipment in the initial phase.

The report also lays out the reason for this move as not great sales performance of the Nexus 7 inch tablet in 29012 and 2013. The information can just be a rumour.

We will however look at another report from the year 2013.

In the first week of December leaked image of an 8-inch LG tablet emerged via @evleaks. This claimed to be the LG V510 tablet that will reportedly replace the 10-inch tablet size in favor of an 8-incher pure Android tablet.  The long delayed Nexus 10 made us believe if this rumour could stand true. This month another news based on research analysis of Gartner, Android is already leading the worldwide tablet market. More Android tablets were sold compared to iOS tablet devices last year. This report makes Android fans speculate the launch of a Nexus 10 tablet from Google this year. “With the report, Google could be prompted to finally out the second Nexus 10 edition, which has been in limbo since late last year”, says a news report in IBtimes.

Last year Google partnered with LG for the Nexus 5, with Asus for the Nexus 7. Nexus 10 was launched in 2012 in partnership with Samsung. We are waiting to see how Google is going to proceed with the Nexus tablets.
